Anthony Martial keen on sealing Euro 2020 spot with France
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial is keen on making the France national team for the summer’s Euro 2020 tournament. The Frenchman has been in top form for the Red Devils this term and he has already contributed 17 goals from 31 appearances in all competitions. As a result, he is on course for the best-ever return during a single campaign and Martial has his sights on representing Les Bleus at the European Championships.
“Yes, I’m thinking about it. I want to go to the Euros. We’ll see. I do my job, that’s all. I’m trying to do my best to help United finish in the top four. I will try to score as many goals as possible to finish the season well,” he was quoted as saying by Le 10 Sport.
Martial has been leading the line for United over the course of the current campaign after the club parted ways with Romelu Lukaku last summer. He has gone through a couple of periods where he has struggled to find the net but overall, there has been an improvement in the consistency of scoring when compared to recent seasons.
As such, he should have caught the eye of Didier Deschamps and it won’t come as a surprise, if he is selected for the international friendlies this month. Martial has been in superb scoring form for the Red Devils after the winter break and has found the net on four of the six appearances. During this period, United have been able to extend their unbeaten run to 10 matches and there is definitely momentum on their side in the Champions League push.
United are currently fifth on the table with 45 points, three adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea. They are guaranteed a Champions League spot at the moment, considering Manchester City have been banned from European competitions for the next two years. However, only the top four will make the Champions League, suppose the Citizens win their appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
